About the coach

I help healthcare workers who are at risk or already suffering from burnout reflect and assess their situation empowering them to begin their journey toward fulfillment in both their professional and personal lives. My experience of sinking to the deepest depths of burnout then learning and utilizing the methods which restored me to a fully human existence serves as an example of the effectiveness of the approaches I discuss. My empathy and compassion is deeply genuine: I understand and can relate to what you are going through and I want to help because I truly care about you. Although I no longer practice, I still love medicine. I still feel part of the profession and I still take it personally that the “system of medicine” continues to hurt many of those in practice. I know it is possible to do more than survive; healthcare workers can truly thrive. But I’ve learned they can’t do it alone. I am here to help you begin and continue your journey to a happier, healthier and more fulfilled you.

Professional background

I chose community practice after training in “malignant” academic programs in surgery and colorectal surgery. Among many appointments, I served as chair of a medical ethics committee and spearheaded development and implementation of a multidisciplinary improvement in surgical care and recovery clinical pathway. The non-clinical factors which led to my burnout caused me to leave the practice of surgery that I still love so dearly.

Personal background

After dedicating the great majority of my life to surgery, it became that clear continuing clinical practice was no longer an option for me. Having sunk to nearly the lowest depths of burnout, I began an intensive journey of recovery. I am now dedicated to helping others in medicine avoid enduring what I experienced so they might be able to enjoy happier, healthier lives, and hopefully remain in the most noble and human endeavor: the practice of medicine.
