About the coach

I provide both Professional Development Coaching in the International Coach Federation model and Communication Performance Coaching for improving feedback discussions, conflict engagement, using emotional intelligence at work and looking at how we receive feedback. I can offer both pure developmental coaching or a hybrid model that alternates between coaching styles.

As a coach I focus on helping clients remember why they choose medicine, look at alignment with their values and start to identify what is a core value versus a behavior that has been learned. This allows choices when imagining the path forward.

Professional background

I am a Board-Certified Anesthesiologist, a Professional Development Coach trained by the Physician Coaching Institute, and a Communication Performance Coach. I have advanced training in communication coaching and am a Fellow in the Academy of Communication in Healthcare. I work with medical students, resident physicians and practicing physicians.

I attended medical school at the University of New Mexico, where I currently work. After completing a transitional internship in Pediatrics I completed my Anesthesiology Residency at the University of Iowa and a fellowship in Adult and Pediatric Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology at Vanderbilt University. Working in these high stakes, high stress environments has highlighted the need for physician wellness, collegial communication and developing a supportive community.

I have worked as a practicing physician for 24 years and have experienced the struggle to maintain collegiality and accountability, productivity, and joy. Learning to separate who we are from what we do is critical, and the first step is frequently to remember who we are. Identifying the behaviors that receive positive and negative feedback, deciding what to keep and what to change, finding the right skill set to change what we want to change is the first step to separating ourselves from shame.

My greatest joy is creating a “container” that is comfortable enough for people to be uncomfortable as they choose what to work on, find the path forward and see the fog clear!
